SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE INSTITUTION:
The National Library of Russia was founded in 1795 in St.-Petersburg. It was open for readers in 1814 as the Imperial Public Library. In 1992 the Library got its modern name (the National Library of Russia) and status of an especially valuable object of the Russian Federation cultural heritage.
The National Library of Russia is one of the five largest libraries in the world and the second largest in Russia in terms of the funds volumes.
The National Library of Russia, located in a specially constructed complex of buildings in the historical center of Saint-Petersburg, in its architectural embodiment was and remains one of the key symbols of national culture along with the Hermitage and the Russian Museum.
The National Library of Russia holds more than 38.6 million copies, print works and other information resources, including electronic media, available to a wide range of users. Every year the National Library of Russia is visited by about 850 thousand readers, who are issued up to 5 million publications, and its electronic resources are accessed by more than 10 million remote users per year.

The system of the National Library of Russia authority files includes authority files of corporate bodies (collective author), names of authors and uniform titles, subject headings.
In 2019, 57331 new files were created and 51228 authority files were edited.
Records are provided in the RUSMARC format.
