- To the Committee of Grievances : the Assembly having referred to your immediate consideration the memorial and address presented to the House on behalf of the religious society called Quakers on the 5th of the 11th month last; the weighty subject thereof we apprehend claims your serious and deliberate attention, as it contains our objections to the penal laws now in force, which manifestly infringe the most essential of privileges, liberty of conscience, and give licence to men of corrupt principles and conduct to exercise the most rigid persecution on their innocent neighbours, and other peaceable inhabitants, exceeding any thing of the kind we have known or heard of within the present century.
